Hello! I'm Joanna, author of this photo journal. My husband, Mark, and I are professional photographers in Asheville, North Carolina. The name of our company, Tuesday's Frog, is based on an almost-wordless children's book about mischievous frogs that go flying on lily pads one night. We love this book because the illustrations are truly the heart of the story. Speaking of mischievous, Cole & Harper are our children, and frequent, though not always willing, photography subjects. Here you'll find not only the stories of our everyday lives, but of those we've photographed in our capacity as professional photographers as well. Please feel free to browse the links above, check out the archives at the bottom of the journal for more photo stories, or subscribe and receive email updates of all our antics. Enjoy!

Greener Photography
We are proud to have been accepted as new members of Greener Photography. We're constantly striving to teach the principles of "reduce, reuse, recycle" to our kids, and because our office is in our home, it's a natural fit for us to bring these same practices to our business as well. Rechargeable batteries, paperless transactions, compact fluorescent lightbulbs, and paper & cardboard recycling are just a few of the simple things we've been doing all along. I'm also super excited that the majority of the vendors we use for our albums, production, and packaging are also a part of this program at Greener Photography.
We've had lots o' products through here recently, so I thought I'd take a minute to share some with you...
This is our new portrait album, which features 20 images sized at 5x7. The album has sturdy black pages and reinforced metal corners for extra durability, and comes in the following colors: light pink, light blue, red, white, brown, or black.
Here's another peek at the custom 8x6 album that is included with the Simple Plan package on the weddings side. (Color shown is Hazelnut.)
'Tis the season for Christmas cards! Have you done yours yet?
I love these collages. Here's the "Asa" version.
And finally, brag books. This is a fairly new product on the portraits side - sweet lil' 5x5 books that come in sets of 2 and feature up to 21 of your favorite photos.
Jeepers these babies grow up quickly! You might remember Isabel...would you believe she's 9 months old already? How I love that bow...and those dark eyes!
Happy as can be in her crib! I love how babies are so comfortable on their own turf!
...and the rest of Isabel's sweet family, also known as her hair stylists, wardrobe/diaper changers, food providers, and entertainment during the photo session. No wonder Emily (Isabel's mom) mentioned that they all took a 2-hour nap after I left! This baby stuff is hard work!
Sweet, happy, AND she likes stripes - now that's my kinda girl! If you look closely, you'll see 2 little teeth popping out at the bottom of her mouth.
You've actually already "met" Catherine when she was nine days old. It is such a privilege to be able to document her growth! I can't believe she's so grown up already!
She's also the perfect pumpkin hat model, if you ask me.
Wyatt was so happy and smiley and cute -- truly an easy-going 9 month old.
He was in town last week from New Jersey, and took time out of his busy schedule to smile for me. Here he's getting a little lovin' from his grandpa, whom he was visiting.
We were so happy when Gabby & Mike decided to make a pitstop in Asheville on their way to Arkansas, especially because it meant that we got to meet Evansen! The last time we saw Gabby she was pregnant with Ev, and here he's 6 months old already!
Is he not just chubby adorableness?
He winked and said, "Wanna see me roll over?" (I know my mom's going to swoon over those big brown eyes when she sees this photo...she has brown hair & brown eyes and 3 children and 2 grandchildren with blonde hair & blue eyes, so she has a special love for the brown-eyed babes.)
I think this next series is pretty indicative of the little guy's personality...
Love that dimpled grin!
And this one, to me, seems oh-so-Gabby.
Finally, a little family lovin' - Evansen is unquestionably one loved lil' boy.
Gabby, Mike, and E, we hope you're having a great time on your trip! Feel free to stop by on your way back home!
I realize you may still be relishing the last bit of summer, but it's time to start thinking about the holidays! (At least, as far as your photos are concerned - you don't have to go Christmas shopping just yet!)
This year we're offering a limited number of portrait sessions for families from September - early November in preparation for the holidays. These holiday sessions are priced at $250 and include a one-hour Family Fun photography session as well as a set of 50 holiday cards. And maybe a few other treats, if you're good.
I am available on weekday mornings and just a handful of Saturdays from September - early November to accommodate your family, so first come, first served! Please just email us at portraits@tuesdaysfrog.com or give us a call at 828.713.4150 to set up your session!
Speaking of cards, here are a few of the designs we're offering this year.
I hung out at the park with Charlie yesterday, and he gave me a run for my money! Everybody knows grass and leaves and birthday cake are much more interesting than a camera!
So he had to be conned into smiling - a little assistance from Daddy did the trick!
Meet Isabel - longed for, loved, and oh-so-adorable! At 13 weeks she is very expressive and vocal. Her parents call her Chopstick because she loves to smile (and laugh) when they read from the takeout menu. Hee! She made me giggle!
I'm half crazy over your eyes of blue...(and those adorable curls in the back of your hair!) Miss Gracie will be 1 year old in 10 days! Happy early birthday, sweet girl!
These sweet girls turn one tomorrow! I can hardly believe it! You may remember them from their newborn shoot last year.
You know what else they'll be celebrating tomorrow? One year of parenthood! I love how happy Ali looks here -- she's made it through an exhausting but oh-so-rewarding year with her girls and come out on top..
...and these girls definitely love their mama!
Congrats, Ali & Steven! Happy birthday sweet girls!
Call me weird, but I love processing portrait orders!
It's definitely a hands-on process for us:
...taking orders and learning which images are our clients' favorites.
...working on the individual images, doing small edits to enhance them...things you wouldn't necessarily notice unless you hold your proof image and your finished image side by side. Making sure the images "pop."
...inspecting every portrait when it comes back from the lab, making sure it's just right (I'm such a perfectionist about that...it's hard for me to let the images go.)
...packaging up the orders prettily and sending them out.
...envisioning these photos -- memories -- on the walls of our clients' homes.
...knowing that you trust us to capture these images and provide the final products to you. That makes me so happy! It makes the work worth it.
I am so thankful to be working in such a fulfilling profession. Thank you for allowing us to do so!
It is rare these days that she cooperates with the camera. So you may notice a few cheesy cracker crumbs around her mouth. And yes, her eyes are that blue and that sparkly. Especially when we snuggle up for naptime and the sun is shining on them - then there's almost a little green in them. She is a good snuggler, and I love that about her. Because for the most part she's off and running and doing everything "myself! myself!" which take infinitely longer. So I treasure those brief moments when she's still and sweet and still my baby a little bit longer. Hardly a baby anymore, really, but still our baby.
You might remember baby J's newborn photos... It was such a treat to see him (and his mom, Angie) again this past week - baby J's all grown up! (Okay, not quite yet...he still has that wonderful baby smell.) He smiled at me in his crib, he smiled when he was on the changing table, and then we took him out on the front porch for photos and he said "this is crazy, woman!" and we had a much harder time convincing him to smile again.
I love these little baby bits & pieces, especially those long dark lashes and the little bit of drool...
But for the record we did get him to smile -- I'm just saving those photos to show Angie tomorrow. : )
I love how connected these two were...right down to their feet! Brooke is on the left (she was awake for the whole shoot) and Anna is on the right (she was asleep almost the entire time.) Here's Brooke hanging on to mom... and mom holding on to both... So dad doesn't feel slighted...
I imagine the womb is a lot like this when you have to share space:
Last one...
I lied...1 more, just to give you an idea of how tiny they really are. At 17 days old they weigh in at 5 lbs (Brooke) and 6 lbs (Anna). This is Brooke in her dad's lap.
I should note that we did photograph them separately (and took candid photos while we were there, too) but this is the section I'm proofing right now so this is what you get to see. I could have easily photographed them all day! Such baby sweetness x 2. : )
Had some photos developed this week and they arrived in the mail today. These are all 12" x 18" and have double-weight matboard behind them. Metallic finish, too, which is very cool.
